Nuovo libro per L'Iguana editrice - New book for Iguana
Oggi esce l'ultimo libro della collana verde - le iguane narratrici - de L'Iguana editrice di Verona. S'intitola Ho tentato tre inizi ed è una raccolta di lettere che fanno parte della fervida corrispondenza tra Charlotte Brontë e i suoi editori, amici e conoscenti quasi fino alla sua morte. Questa edizione unica e formidabile contiene la prefazione della tradutrice e curatrice, Sara Grosoli, l'intrigante biografia di Charlotte e la postfazione di Paola Bono.
Come per tutti i libri de L'Iguana, ho curato l'intero aspetto grafico di questo volume. Ho anche disegnato l'immagine di copertina che abbiamo ideato insieme a Chiara Turozzi. Ho ritratto un'immagine stilizzata di Charlotte e al posto dei dettagli del viso abbiamo inserito un pezzo di una delle sue lettere.
Dal punto di visto grafico l'impaginazione è stata una bella sfida perché il libro include il testo inglese a fronte e ho voluto che i due testi - quello originale in inglese e la traduzione in italiano - scorressero a pari passo. Quindi ho dovuto aggiustare la dimensione del carattere e dell'interlinea di ciascuna lettera per riuscirci. Ma sono molto contenta del risultato finale che secondo me risulta elegante e coerente.

The latest green line book - Narrative Iguanas - of L'Iguana editrice is being published today. It's title is Ho tentato tre inizi (Three commencements have I essayed) and it is a selection of letters that are part of the rich corrispondence between Charlotte Brontë and her editors, friends and acquiantances. This unique and marvellous edition contains a preface by the translator and curator Sara Grosoli, an intriguing biography of Charlotte and an afterword by Paola Bono.
I have done the entire graphic layout for this volume, as for all the Iguana books. I also drew the cover image that we thought up with Chiara Turozzi. I designed a simple profile of Charlotte and inserted a piece of one of her letters instead of her facial details.
From a graphic point of view laying out the text was a nice challenge since the book includes the original text in English on the left side pages. I wanted the two texts - the original English text and the Italian translation - to flow at the same pace and to do so I had to adjust the size and the spacing of the text for every single letter. I am rather satisfied with the end results that seems elegant and coherent to me.
